Report

A Literature Meeting

On Sunday and Monday 20-21/03/2010, Al-Saadah Basic School arranged a literature meeting for students with literate talents, mainly focusing on the students’ writing skills. The school invited other schools to participate in a competition which was the major part of the event. The meeting took place in The Crown Hotel.
We –the students- arrived at the meeting hall early in the morning. The hall was neat and tidy. The furniture was smartly arranged and the atmosphere was energizing for the competitors. There was even a small breakfast buffet at the entrance of the main hall. In short, everything was set-up pretty well by the teachers Noor Al-Shanfari, Tufool Al-Awayid, and Zainab Al-Mishali.
The event started by a bit of Al Quran being read by a brilliant student reader Hadeel Khamees.
Then we listened to different poems and other literature pieces composed by the attending students. After that, the crucial moment we’ve been waiting for had arrived. It was time for the competition.
The students met with well known persons. The most identifiable one being the Dhofari poet  Ahmad Mohammad AlMashani. They judged the entries by the students and discussed various issues with them.
In the end a few words of encouragement  were given to us by the judges and the score was announced. Many students from A'Saada school won high places. Everything went fast and it was so exiting! Even though I personally didn’t win, but just being there and examining all those literally significant pieces inspired me greatly.
The entries were a proof of the open and extensive minds of the youth, and how a person can be really thoughtful and meditative at such a young age.
