Smoking
Report About Smoking
On the basis of more than 7,000 articles relating to smoking and
disease already available at that time in the biomedical literature, the
Advisory Committee concluded that cigarette smoking is—
· A cause
of lung cancer and laryngeal cancer in men
· A
probable cause of lung cancer in women
· The
most important cause of chronic bronchitis
The release of the report was the first in a series of steps,
still being taken more than 40 years later, to diminish the impact of tobacco
use on the health of the American people.
For several days, the report furnished newspaper headlines across
the country and lead stories on television newscasts. Later it was ranked among
the top news stories of 1964.
During the more than 40 years that have elapsed since that report,
individual citizens, private organizations, public agencies, and elected
officials have pursued the Advisory Committee's call for "appropriate
remedial action."
Early on, the U.S. Congress adopted the Federal Cigarette Labeling
and Advertising Act of 1965 and the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act of
1969. These laws—
· Required
a health warning on cigarette packages
· Banned
cigarette advertising in the broadcasting media
· Called
for an annual report on the health consequences of smoking
In September 1965, the Public Health Service established a small
unit called the National Clearinghouse for Smoking and Health.
Through the years, the Clearinghouse and its successor
organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office on
Smoking and Health, have been responsible for 29 reports on the health
consequences of smoking.
In close cooperation with voluntary health organizations, the
Public Health Service has—
· Supported
successful state and community programs to reduce tobacco use
· Disseminated
research findings related to tobacco use
· Ensured
the continued public visibility of antismoking messages
Within this evolving social milieu, the population has given up
smoking in increasing numbers. Nearly half of all living adults who ever smoked
have quit.
The antismoking campaign is a major public health success with few
parallels in the history of public health. It is being accomplished despite the
addictive nature of tobacco and the powerful economic forces promoting its use.
However, more than 45 million American adults still smoke, more
than 8 million are living with a serious illness caused by smoking, and about
438,000 Americans die prematurely each year as a result of tobacco use.
Efforts to implement proven interventions must be continued and
expanded.

The Student Shout : No More Heavy School Bags
Every year by the start of a new
semester the students suffering renewed with "The Heavy School Bag" .
Although it is not a new problem ,but we must take it on consideration .
A lot of students complain about the
weight of school bag which affected deeply in their health. Researches recently
showed that a huge number of students are suffering from problems were not
infected by before such as curvature of the spine moreover neck pain and
muscles and back pain. As any problem there must be some reasons that caused it
such as the wrong usage of school. Moreover the instability of school schedule
which forced students to bring all their books to avoid missing their lessons,
also another reason is curriculum . As a result of this problem parents become
afraid about their children's health condition.
To reduce this problem there are some
practical suggestions like as organizing the school schedule, making cabinets
for books, so students can put some of their books in. As a result they will
carry fewer books in their bags. Furthermore, doing electronic copies of
educational subjects might help in reducing this problem.
Also showing the students the correct
way for carrying the school bag.
To sum up, to make this problem
disappear there must be cooperation between school, parents and students
themselves since all of them a part in the problem.

How long will continue this series??
Recently ,all the newspaper in Oman talks about
very serious problem which has been increased in our country in fantasy way .T
hat I think most of us know ,without any doubt it’s the validity of fraud food.
After all this years we discovered that we were
shafted by those people or ''monsters'' who call themselves human (salesmen). They
were sold us fake products. Of course all of us are asking ourselves. Who is
responsible for this tragedy? Is it the traders or consumer himself?
You will surprise that both of them are responsible.
May be you are wondering how the
consumer can be reason for this disaster .The answer of this wondering is
because of his neglect. To explain more, we realized that most of people don’t
care about the expiration date of a product. that thing makes the salesmen over
and over in exploitation and cheating us. Furthermore, it is because there was
no specialized organization in inspection of quality of products.
In last year our country makes a serious step to
make an end for this tragedy by creating consumer body protection. It started the work by doing campaigns for
inspection around Oman. Lately the Oman daily newspaper shows that there was
coalition for more than 4500 bottle and 348 Kg of food with end date. We hope to see more in the future.
